SWEDENOne of the oldest kingdoms of the world today is a country of parliamentary democracy. The King, while maintaining the status of Head of State, performs only representational functions. According to the Act on the form of government, all public authority in Sweden comes from a people who, by free secret ballot, elects a parliament every four years.

The first settlements in the modern city were found on the island of Stadsholman, one of the 14 islands on which the city is now located. The first mention of Stockholm was 1252, and since the thirteenth century the city has been a permanent residence of Swedish kings.

On your journey to Sweden, you will see the quiet northern trees, where wooden houses are painted red and are written by national ornaments, lively cities, sea coast with wonderful sands and galaxy beaches, over which fancy rocks hang. Sweden is very diverse and rich in contrasts.

In Sweden, many monuments of the medieval architecture have been preserved: stone churches of the Roman style (in Uppsala, Lunde), gothic temples (in Stockholm, Uppsala), locks and palaces of the revival era.

Geographical status: Sweden is located in North Europe, the eastern and southern parts of the Scandinavian peninsula. In the west, Sweden borders Norway, in the north-east with Finland, and in the east and south, it is tainted by the waters of the Baltic Sea and the Bay of Botna. In the south, the Eresun Straits, Kattegat and Skagherraq are separated by Sweden from Denmark. Sweden comprises two major islands in Baltic, Gotland and Eland. The area of Sweden is 450,000 square kilometres.

Climate: Dead. The temperature in the summer is rarely raised above +22 C. The winter temperature is not lower -16 C. The sediment falls from 500 to 700 mm per year (at plains) to 1,500 to 2000 mm (in mountains).

Capital: Stockholm.

Political status: Constitutional monarchy. The Head of State is the King. Legislature - Parliament (Riksdag).

Population: There are 8.5 million people. About 87 per cent of the population are Swedish. About a million inhabitants are either immigrants or their descendants, most of them Finnish, Yugoslav, Norwegian, Danish, Turks and Poles.

Language: State language is Swedish. Lapland is in the north. English is distributed among foreign languages.

Religion: Protestants and representatives of other denominations in a smaller number.

Money: Cash - Swedish krone (SEK).

Kitchen: Sweden, like all the northern peoples, cannot brag about the great variety of national foods. But all over the world, they've been famous for eating, "Swedish table," a way of singing, they've won popularity in all countries.
In the Swedish kitchen, practically no use is made of the right and the specialty, the taste of the meal is created by the naturally excellent quality of the original products. The local delicts should be the first to take the dishes from the reindeer and losytin, cancer, rag, salmon. However, for the Swedes themselves, salmon is a normal food product, it is low and is offered in a variety of species (driver, dig, salt, etc.)
Mineral water and coffee are the most consumable of beverages. The Sweed Coffee is

a weak solution that can only be compared to the same Finnish. So, if you want a really strong coffee, order an espresso.
The relationship to alcohol in Sweden is very cautious. The booze, after work, is regarded as a sign of alcoholism. Alcohol is appropriate for holidays, weekends, vacations.

Transport: The largest cities, Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malm, and their suburbs have a well-developed urban public transport network. However, in most parts of the country the vehicle is practically needed.
