Fly safe: airlines with best hygiene standards for COVID-19 prevention

18.05.2021

Since the launch of the airline pandemic, new approaches have been introduced to ensure security at the airport and on board aircraft. An assessment of their efforts is provided by the first and, at present, the only accreditation standard Skytrax COVID-19 Airline Safety Rating. The rating is based on a wide range of 190 criteria.

Such factors shall be taken into account in the evaluation:

  • filtering systems. Normally, the air in the salon is updated every 2 to 3 minutes. And modern airplane models are equipped with filters like those in hospitals. Such installations remove even the smallest particles, in particular coronavirus;
  • Compliance with protocol: mandatory carrying of masks on board, absence of passengers on the central chairs of each row and provision of sanitary kits;
  • Mandatory shields and masks from all airline personnel at the airport and on board the aircraft;
  • The existence of clear markings and observance of social distance;
  • Provision of anti-septics and sufficient masks throughout the flight;
  • cleaning and disinfection and other factors.

The top five stars achieved airlines: airBaltic, Qatar Airways, Oman Air, ANA All Nippon Airways, Japan Airlines, Fiji Airways.
They are getting away, but also a good level of 4 stars show: Turkish Airlines, Air France, British Airways, Emirates, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Lufthansa, Ryanair, Aegean Airlines, Copa Airlines, easyJet, Finnair, Iberia, IndiGo, TAP Portugal, Vueling Airlines.
Three stars have airlines: Air Arabia, Anadolujet, Blue Air, EgyptAir, LOT Polish Airlines, Pegasus Travel, Wizz Air.
